Default Houston Texans trading for Matt Schaub

GOOD BYE DAVID CARR!

Although i am glad Carr won't be starting for the Texans anymore, i feel we may have given too much for someone who hasn't proven anything.

Quote:
ATLANTA -- In a move that figures to have significant ramifications for the incumbent starters from both teams, the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday agreed in principle to trade three-year veteran quarterback Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans.

When the trade is completed, Atlanta and Houston will flip-flop first-round picks in April's draft, and Atlanta will receive Houston's second-round picks in 2007 and 2008. The deal likely will be completed later Wednesday afternoon. Houston has the No. 8 pick in the first round of the draft, while Atlanta is slotted 10th.

Sources told ESPN.com that the trade is contingent upon the Texans reaching agreement with Schaub on a contract, and negotiations have already begun.

In acquiring Schaub, the Texans have ostensibly conceded that five-year veteran David Carr, the top overall player chosen in the 2002 draft and a quarterback in whom Houston has invested considerable time and money, is no longer their quarterback of the future. At the same time, the departure of Schaub indicates that new Falcons coach Bobby Petrino is sold on Michael Vick, who is said to have made a strong impression on the rookie sideline boss in their first few months working together.

Schaub, 25, has been the subject of trade rumors for each of the past two springs. ESPN.com reported last Friday in its "Tip Sheet" column that Falcons officials seemed prepared to begin listening to trade offers for him and had begun discussing possible replacements.

One of the strong candidates to replace Schaub as the backup to Vick, ESPN.com has learned, is Anthony Wright, who played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006.

Despite starting only two games in three seasons and winning neither of them, Schaub is highly regarded around the NFL. The former Virginia standout, a third-round pick by Atlanta in 2004, has completed 84 of 161 passes for 1,033 yards, with six touchdown passes and six interceptions.

Schaub was a restricted free agent this spring and the Falcons made him the highest qualifying offer possible, at $2.3 million. That qualifying offer meant that, had another team signed Schaub to an offer sheet, and Atlanta not matched it, the Falcons would have received first- and third-round draft choices as compensation.

Bah. Let's see him put up anything near Carr's numbers with the same O-Line he's had to put up with. Hopefully they keep Carr around for the inevitable "just in case" situation.

No doubt, I don't think its Carr's fault as bad as the O-Line has been over the years...don't get me wrong, he needs work, but that O-Line needs alot more.

He might be, heard on the news that he will be traded before the draft, and Minn is one of the few teams looking for a QB.

A good Quarterback is hard to find, But you are right about the offensive line. Without a good O-line it doesn't matter that much how good a quarterback is he wont be able to win consistently. Success is definetly a team effort.

They traded for a guy whose likely just as good at best this season with a lot less experience starting games.

He'll take an absolute beating because that white boy won't be able to scramble.

Says in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star Tribune this morning that the Vikings are not interested in signing David Carr. Big mistake in my opinion, I think Carr would do great with the O-line that the Vikings have. The Vikes are in need of a better QB then Jackson.

Schaub is a good quality guy with all the necessary tools to be a great QB. I'm glad to see him finally get out of the shadow of Michael Vick and get a chance to prove himself. There has been a large contingent of Atlanta fans who have wanted to see Schaub get starts over Vick, despite the fact that he hasn't really proven much on the field. I hope Schaub does well. However, I don't want him to do so well that this becomes another situation like when the Falcons dumped off Favre, only to see him become a Hall of Famer.

I agree, this really isn't a big deal for Schaub. He will still get sacked constantly and be under relentless pressure. David Carr in Minnesota seems like a great move for them, because I still think he has talent, but without much else talent, one person isn't much. I think he will probably succeed in Minnesota; well, at least better than Brad Johnson.

I think you're getting the Texans mixed up with the Raiders. Remember that time they thought Art Shell could coach?

The Texans may have not what was best for them, but they definitely did what was best for Carr in waiving him. I would've liked the possible 2nd round draft pick, but I'll also be happy to see Carr get a fresh start at a new team of his choosing. A classy move by the Texans IMO.

They could have waived Carr last year and drafted Vince Young but they said "Carr is our guy" Or draft Bush who would have taken pressure off of Carr. Now they don't have Carr,Bush or Vince Young and the same exact problems they had three years ago. No forward progress at all.

No forward progress? We got rid of a bad coach and got a good one. Despite having our star RB getting injured, we still had a par season (for the Texans, at least), and gave Ron Dayne to show the chance that he still has some life left in him from the Wisconsin days. We had the rookie defensive player of the year, and still have a pretty damn strong defense for the amount of young players we've got. Our hole has been the O-Line - I'll admit I wanted Bush on the Texans, and my 2nd choice would've been D'Brickshaw Ferguson. Had we had a stronger O-Line this season, Carr and our WRs would've taken a whole hell of a lot of pressure off of the RB situation, which would've for sure earned us at least a few more wins.

Just because a team doesn't draft Reggie Bush or Vince young doesn't necessarily show "no forward progress". It means a bad draft pick.
